Braga and Guimarães Tour - Full Day

After meeting our guide at the meeting point, our tour starts towards Braga. Braga is a deeply religious city and this guided tour allows you to see two of the city's most famous religious landmarks: Portugal's oldest cathedral and the Bom Jesus Sanctuary ( classified by UNESCO ). Exciting, right? We'll start with a visit to the Bom Jesus do Monte Sanctuary , one of the highlights of this tour. Now it's time to visit the magnificent Braga Cathedral (also known as Sé de Braga), a monument that combines three different styles : Romanesque, Manueline and Baroque. It is the oldest cathedral in Portugal - it was built several decades before the country was founded! Without a doubt, this imposing cathedral is Braga's greatest landmark . Next, we'll walk through Braga's historic center and discover some of the city's most important streets and gardens, such as the Santa Bárbara Garden , considered by many to be one of the most beautiful in Portugal . After the guided walking tour, you will have free time to explore the city or perhaps have a quick lunch. Relax and enjoy this moment, as we still have another city to visit on this tour: Guimarães. Guimarães is the birthplace of Portugal and a World Heritage Site since 2001 . This was the city where the first King of Portugal, Afonso Henriques , was born. The history of Guimarães is linked to the foundation of national identity and the Portuguese language. We'll start exploring this city by visiting Guimarães Castle , a national symbol from the 10th century. From the outside, its medieval structure is impressive ; inside, you can enjoy breathtaking views over the city. We will then continue our walk past the Palace of the Dukes of Bragança and the Church of São Miguel . The tour continues with a walking exploration of the historic center of Guimarães , a UNESCO World Heritage Site celebrated for its authenticity and link to Portugal's origins . Wander through its beautifully preserved streets, adorned with iron balconies, granite balconies, arches and time-worn paving stones. Admire landmarks such as the statue of D. Afonso Henriques, Praça Martins Sarmento , Rua Santa Maria, the Town Hall, Praça Santiago and the Church of Senhora da Oliveira .
