Royal Oporto Wine Company Cellar - Ticket and Guided Visit

Founded in 1756 by Royal Charter of King D. José I, Real Companhia Velha, also known as Royal Oporto Wine Company, is the oldest and most emblematic wine company in Portugal. The centenary cellars of Real Companhia Velha are located in Vila Nova de Gaia on the opposite side to Oporto, precisely on the left bank of the Douro river . These cellars store a vast and unique selection of Tawny Ports – aged in oak barrels -, as well as the family’s private cellar holding over 16.000 rare bottles of Vintage Port , in which the oldest bottle dates back to 1765, preserving the prestige and reputation this house enjoys over 260 years. Deep in the silence of our cellars, Ports rest in noble oak barrels, an artefact made by the hand of skilled coopers that have worked with the Company for many generations. Asleep in an unique environment, the barrels and vats for Port are lost in time... 10... 20... 100 years ...! ... The time necessary for each Port to achieve its exact point of maturation . The tour begins with a video showing the art of making Port , since its birth in the vineyards of the Douro Valley to its ageing, bottling and shipping in Vila Nova de Gaia . The tour continues to the main ageing cellar, with a stop at the "Vintage Museum" and finishing at our Wine shop or the heart of our historic ageing cellar with a tasting of Ports , which vary according to the selected option. TASTINGS Classic Tour (45 minutes): Sweet or Dry White, Ruby or Tawny, Rosé Port and an aged 10 Years Old Tawny. Premium Tour (45 minutes): Sweet or Dry White Port, Late Bottled Vintage, Reserve Tawny and a 20 Years Old Tawny.
